Simple MTD Income Tax software for construction workers

If you’re a self-employed construction worker or subcontractor in the UK, major changes are on the way. From April 2026, individuals earning over £50,000 will need to comply with Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD IT).

The threshold will reduce to £30,000 in April 2027 and will reduce further to £20,000 in April 2028. HMRC will be writing to you to confirm you will need to join the MTD IT programme as your mandation date draws near.

How it works

MTD IT means keeping digital records, submitting quarterly income updates to HMRC, and moving away from the traditional self-assessment system. For those already busy with site work and managing day-to-day jobs, this can feel like a lot - but TaxNav makes it manageable.

TaxNav is simple, reliable software designed specifically for people working in construction. It's recognised by HMRC and is easy to use – so you can stay compliant and in control.

Making MTD IT manageable, wherever the job takes you

Construction workers often juggle multiple jobs, irregular income and admin challenges like Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) deductions. Making Tax Digital for Income Tax adds another layer of admin - but the right tool can make it much easier to handle.

  • Keep digital records of your income and allowable expenses
  • Track CIS deductions accurately as you go
  • Submit quarterly income and expense summaries and a final declaration to HMRC
  • Avoid last-minute tax stress or non-compliance penalties
  • Stay on top of your tax position throughout the year

Everything works in your browser, so you can manage your tax from your phone, tablet or desktop - whether you're on-site, in the van or at home. You can continue to use spreadsheets, if you do currently.
